Introducing Calgary Chiropractors, Drs. Jana and Jamie Miceli

"I received my first chiropractic adjustment when I was 2 months old," reveals Dr. Jana. "My parents opted for a more natural approach in keeping their kids healthy. I have been adjusted on a regular basis my whole life and reap all the benefits that chiropractic has to offer."

In preparation for chiropractic college, she headed south to the University of Lethbridge where she began her studies. She graduated four years later with a Bachelor of Science with a major in Kinesiology. Her studies prepared her well for what she would encounter at Palmer College of Chiropractic, where she was accepted to in early 2001. Located in Davenport, Iowa, Palmer gave her a leading edge education in the science, art and philosophy of chiropractic. During her four years at Palmer, courses included biochemistry, a major emphasis on anatomy and human physiology, X-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques and patient care in the Palmer College Public Clinic. She also dedicated a large amount of time to the Palmer Gonstead Club where she was able to learn and fine tune her adjusting skills as well as later on in her studies teach the technique to students.

The first day of classes proved to be very exciting as she stumbled across her now husband, Dr. Jamie Miceli in a Gonstead Club meeting. Being a year ahead of Dr. Jana in his studies, he took her under his wing and gave her a crash course in how to survive the Palmer experience. After graduating in 2005 Dr. Jana returned with Dr. Jamie in tow to the Calgary area to establish what is now Miceli Family Chiropractic.

Dr. Jamie fondly remembers his chiropractor's dedication to his patients. "An important (expensive) basketball camp was approaching and I foolishly injured my shoulder in a friendly game of soccer. My chiropractor came in on his off time to adjust me and get me ready for the camp. It saved me from the wrath of my father and my basketball coach!" laughs Dr. Jamie. Chiropractic was an integral part of his basketball career and kept him healthy and relatively injury free throughout the season.

As basketball and university came to an end, Dr. Jamie travelled to Europe for 2 years and in his travels met a lot of interesting people. In particular one whose father was a Gonstead chiropractor in Sweden. This experience opened his eyes to the possibility of himself becoming a chiropractor. Within months he was on his way to Davenport Iowa to start his education.

As early as possible, Dr. Jamie began attending Gonstead Seminars where he perfected his chiropractic technique under the watchful eye of some of the greats in the profession. He spent countless hours learning and then transferring that knowledge on to the first year students in Gonstead Club. His passion for what he does is evident by the sparkle in his eye when you ask him what he does for a living.

"Patients that know and understand what is going on have a tendency to get better faster" states Dr. Jana. "Our patients are always amazed at how much time we spend with them and how thorough our visits are. We want each patient to leave our office with a better understanding of what chiropractic is and what it has to offer."

Both doctors have a passion for caring for the whole family however Dr. Jana has made a niche for herself in the care of expectant mothers and children. Miceli Family Chiropractic has welcomed many babies into the world with the joy of caring for them not only during pregnancy but the years after as well.

Dr. Jamie and Dr. Jana recently added a new edition to the family. Luca Robert Miceli was born at home in the tub on December 27th, 2009 by the loving hands of Briar Hill Midwives. He has been an amazing edition to the family and with him has come much joy.

Outside of family, they enjoy the outdoors with their beloved dog Ben. Camping, bike riding, snowmobiling, and concerts occupy their weekends when they are not entertaining friends and family. Sudoku puzzles and Tim Horton's coffee still remain some of Dr. Jana's weaknesses, while playing the guitar and an avid love of all things music are Dr. Jamie's other loves beside chiropractic.

Having a spouse for a chiropractor enables both doctors to stay well adjusted so they can look after their patients. They both receive a weekly check up from one another to maintain their nervous systems through all the challenges they meet daily.

"Enough about us! How can we help you with today’s safe and natural chiropractic care? Give us a call so we can help you take your first step towards better health."

Can babies with colic be helped with chiropractic?
It's probably one of the times a parent feels the most helpless. But based on the research, chiropractic and colic relief appear to go hand in glove. With success rates in the mid-90% range, more and more Calgary parents are seeing a chiropractor. If you have a baby with colic learn how chiropractic may help.
How could chiropractic help a stomach problem?
Chiropractic works by locating and reducing areas of the spine compromising nerve communications between your brain and your body. If nerves to or from your stomach are irritated, your stomach won't work right. Chiropractors find the source of the interference, reduce it and allow your body to work as designed.
